Our Beautiful Locations
Kingswood has three locations in Bath, all in close proximity to each other and all unique in their own individual way.
The diverse facilities available at these locations enable us to offer our customers an extensive range of social, sporting and business opportunities less than five minutes from Bath city centre.
Kingswood Preparatory School
Summerhill was purchased by Kingswood in 1955 from Thomas Cook’s grandson. The house was originally built between 1818 and 1820 with the west facing façade, dating from 1738, being added in 1934 by Ernest Cook, who salvaged it from a property in Chippenham and had it grafted onto the end of 1-2 Sion Hill Place. It is now the home of Kingswood Preparatory School and is available for private hire during the school holiday periods.
This venue lends itself to weddings, dinner dances, parties, conferences and corporate events, and is particularly popular due to its views over Bath city centre. The Mansion opens out onto a terraced area with a large lawn which is also suitable for a marquee. The Mansion has two floors available for hire – the ground floor suitable for dining for up to 100 guests seated and the first floor for dancing in the Upper Gallery. Alternatively, the ground floor room can be used for both dining and dancing.
The Dining Hall
For larger gatherings the Dining Hall at Kingswood Senior School offers a majestic setting for an event. Reminiscent of “Hogwarts”, the hall can seat up to 160 for dinner with the front of the school offering a stunning location for arrival drinks and canapés on the lawns by the chapel.
Particularly popular for Christmas parties and dinner dances, this venue is available to hire during school holidays periods, and for residential lets the Dining Hall is the location for all meals during your stay.
This Gothic hall, with its wood paneling and stained glass windows, is also a suitable film and photo shoot location.
The Creed Room, named after a former Headmaster, is a small function room at the Senior School with views over Bath and a walled garden area at the front. It is perfect for meetings, presentations and informal parties such as birthdays, children’s parties and smaller weddings, accommodating between 50 and 75 guests. The capacity of the hall can easily be increased by the erection of a marquee at the front. This hall is available to hire during the holiday periods.
The first-floor meeting room is steeped in history as the ends of the room are home to the School’s historical archives. Ideal as a film and photo shoot location, the Gallery also lends itself to smaller gatherings such as christening parties and bridge evenings, and is an ideal meeting room due to its quiet, central location within the Senior School. The Gallery is available to hire evenings and weekends during term-time and anytime during the holiday periods.
The Pavilion, located at the School’s Upper playing fields in Lansdown, was built in 2011, with a more functional design for modern times than the original building, which dated back to 1898.
With ample free parking the building now boasts two purpose-built function rooms catering for up to 150 guests, a bar and eight changing rooms. The Pavilion has extensive views of the lawns and sports fields and is also an ideal location for sporting and marquee events such as wedding receptions and corporate team-building days.
The Upper playing fields offer rugby, football, cricket, athletics, tennis, netball and a purpose-built floodlit AstroTurf hockey pitch– all available for hire.
The Pavilion and sports facilities are available to hire all year round making this location a hidden gem just outside of Bath city centre.
